Gustatory Pleasure from Sweet Olives
Azaleas blossomed in March on CUHK campus, which was also embraced by the graduands' laughter. On the Photo Day of S.H. Ho College, different participating departments prepared fabulous decorations to help the graduands' build unforgettable memories. The spring wind brought the gentle scent of sweet olives, which are known for their divinely pleasant scent. In the era of the ancient Chinese imperial examination, sweet olives symbolized the honour of literati. As an evergreen shrub permeating its surroundings with mild natural fragrance, sweet olives are as meek as humble gentlemen. The College widely planted sweet olives, with a humble heart on encouraging its students to live an evergreen life, and to pursue simplicity in realizing ones' life goals like the humble ancient scholars did.

Growing Intellectual Appetite
Dr. Anthony Neoh, a legal veteran, shared his view on the Rule of Law in Hong Kong at the High Table Dinner on 20 January.
The Rule of Law, innovation and perseverance are the core values that Hong Kongers are proud of. At the High Table Dinners held in the second semester at S.H. Ho College, students heeded advice from guest speakers: A professor of Chemical Pathology introduced a non-invasive prenatal diagnosis inspired from his attentiveness to everyday life; a legal veteran elaborated on the Rule of Law; two masters of Lingnan art spoke on their aesthetic pursuit in Chinese painting; an outstanding athlete shared his story on his pursuit of success. Master Sun even unveiled the results of 'Master's Cup' and '10th Anniversary Logo Design Competition' at the last High Table Dinner of the semester.

Cultivating the Dream of Chinese Painting
(from left) Prof. Ng Yuet-lau, President of Ling Ngai Association and Chairlady of the Hong Kong Lingnan Art Association (3rd left); Prof. Samuel Sun (3rd right), Master of S.H. Ho College, CUHK; Prof. Philip Chiu (2nd right), Assistant Dean (External Affairs) of the Faculty of Medicine, CUHK; pose for a photo with students of S.H. Ho College in front of Prof Ng’s painting dedicated to the College titled 'Inspiring Young Minds in a Home-like College'.
Chinese Painting originated in the Tang dynasty. The innovative Lingnan School focuses on sketching in nature, where different objects found could be artistic themes. Bright colours adopted in Lingnan painting have marked a watershed from other Chinese painting schools. Prof. Ng Yuet-lau, a renowned Hong Kong painter and President of Ling Ngai Association, joined hands with her son Prof. Philip Chiu to organize an art exhibition named 'Lingnan Images—Paintings by Prof. Ng Yuet-lau and Prof. Philip Chiu'. The exhibition was held at S.H. Ho College, which is the first stop of their roving exhibitions. It presents more than 50 pieces which include their representative Chinese paintings, as well as paintings by Ling Ngai Association members and students of S.H. Ho College and Christian Zheng Sheng College. The themes cover landscapes, flowers and birds, as well as local customs and humanity aspects. Prof. Ng taught students from S.H. Ho College and Christian Zheng Sheng College the know-how of Chinese painting, among which some students even followed Prof. Ng to a sketching tour in the mainland. Students' paintings are first exhibited, signifying the meaning of cultural inheritance.

Joy Shared Among the Diners
'Music is far-reaching, helping to draw people closer to one another. I hope that all of you enjoy the musical enchantment at the SHHO Medical Society Annual Dinner tonight. Let music break the barrier between teachers and students. Let's sing to connect with one another,' said Prof. Kai-ming Chan. The theme of the dinner was 'Unity'. Dr. Tzu-leung Ho, Chairman of the Committee of Overseers of the College, introduced to the audience the song list and its encouraging lyrics. He said, 'S.H. Ho College is a big family. It is hoped that you experience support at home. Dedicate yourselves to be beautiful dreamers. As long as you dream on and innovate, you can one day launch innovative medicine which would give tremendous help to the general public.'

Untrammelled Craftsmanship
As 'A Thousand-year Pottery City', Shiwan is known for its distinctive pottery. The earliest earthenware production in Shiwan could be traced to Tang dynasty. Compared to exquisite and gaudy pottery in Northern China, Shiwan Pottery is rich in its archaic rusticity. The first feature of Shiwan Pottery is its vivid and lifelike figures. The human and animal figurines skillfully shaped by Shiwan potters, named as 'Shiwan Figurines', are interesting and lively. S.H. Ho College organized an exhibition 'Untrammelled Craftsmanship—Huo Guanzhao's Pottery Exhibition' from 20 January to 28 February 2016. The exhibitor Mr. Huo Guanzhao is a renowned contemporary potter, whose clans have been residing in Shiwan.

Inaugural English Singing Contest
On 1 February, a spectacular arena was set up at the entrance of the College hostels. The audience began to enter the 'concert hall'. The hall bustled with people formed a contrast with the continuous drizzle outside. This was the College's inaugural English Singing Contest initiated by its College students and supported by the College's English Programme Sub-Committee. Singing out the English lyrics, performers radiated their talent on the arena.
