Dear readers,

A "Very Hot Weather Warning" was in force last weekend.  The shoot-up of Hong Kong temperatures declare the onset of summer.  Along with summer, it is the job-seeking season.  Not only will the soon-to-be college graduates time their career hunt, but the penultimate year students are also going to snatch up the opportunities of internship so as to enrich their employment portfolio for use in the next year.


Meet with Sir David Akers-Jones

Under the "Value Exploration Series" of the I·CARE Achievers Programme, the "Meet with Sir David Akers-Jones" activity was held on the 30th of April.  Shortlisted students were invited to a small-group discussion with Sir David Akers-Jones at his house on mutual life lessons and perspectives of different issues.  Towards the questions raised by students pursuing studies of law, physics and social sciences, Sir David Akers-Jones lent a willing ear and offered wise counsel.


Student Development Portfolio: Information Update and Report Application

The Student Development Portfolio (SDP) is a university-wide electronic platform for capturing and presenting students' Experiential Learning Activities (ELA) under the whole-person development framework namely I·CARE.  Its major functions include viewing of ELA offered by various units of the University, updating and maintaining participation records, and producing ELA Report to showcase learning achievements.


I·CARE Cross-generational Integration Programme: Hakka Cultural Camp

This Centre rolls out the I·CARE Cross-generational Integration Programme, which is divided into two parts, in this academic year.  Following the "Playing a University Student for a Day" event held earlier, the "Hakka Cultural Camp" lasting from the 13th to 14th of April came to fruition.


I·CARE Hong Kong Cultural Tours Project: Nearing an End

The I·CARE Hong Kong Cultural Tours Project of this academic year is almost over.  36 CUHK students had undergone a series of professional training before acting as docents between March and May 2019.  Over 400 students of 10 secondary schools joined the guided tours to explore Hong Kong.  In addition, three tours with different themes were offered to CUHK students and staff exclusively, and they attracted altogether 55 attendees.


The Core Group under I·CARE Achievers Programme: Progress Update

The 30 core group members of the I·CARE Achievers Programme of this academic year have started organising various activities for themselves as well as for other CUHK students upon completion of three induction activities (namely "Training Day Camp on Leadership and Team-building", "Retreat Day" and "Workshop on Value Clarification") and the division of four small teams in accordance with their own interest (namely hiking, marathon, farming and camping).  Each small team was assigned with a mentor who had already been invited by the students to have a meet-up.


Participants of I·CARE Programme Attended the Vice-Chancellor's Tea Gathering

Prof. Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of the University, invited students who have joined various activities under the I·CARE Programme over the past year to attend a tea gathering on the 18th of April.  Held at The Stage on the 3rd floor of Cheng Yu Tung Building, the nearly-two-hour meeting was filled with appreciation and advice.


CUHK Entrepreneur Day 2019: Social Innovation Seminar

The CUHK Entrepreneur Day 2019 organised by CUHK Alumni Torch Fund was successfully held on the 10th-11th of this month at Lee Shau Kee Building.  Mr. Paul Chan Mo-po (Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government), Prof. Rocky S. Tuan (Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK) and Mr. Stephen Liang (Assistant Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council) officiated the Opening Ceremony in the morning of the 1st day.  Other activities were kaleidoscopic among which the "Social Innovation Seminar" had been proposed in response to changing times.


I·CARE Programme Team Received the Positive Workplace Service Award

The I·CARE Programme Team of this Centre is delighted to receive the "Team Award" under the Positive Workplace Service Award (2018-19).  The certificate and trophy were presented by Prof. Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor, in the Positive Workplace Service Award Presentation Ceremony held on the 8th of this month.  Recipients of the Award for this year also included other six teams (for the "Team Award") and three staff members (for the "Individual Award") from different units.  Two awardees in the latter category were also granted the "Positive Leadership Award" as newly introduced this year.

During coming summer holidays i.e. from now to August 2019, the eNewsletter of I·CARE Centre for Whole-person Development will be issued every two months.  The next one will then come to light on 21 July.  The monthly interval of issuance will resume normal in September 2019.
