Exploring Taiwan Aboriginal Inhabitant Culture
Talking about Taiwan, many people will think of night markets, hot springs, the nostalgic architecture in Jiufen as well as the sunshine and beaches in Kenting. On 27 December 2013, 13 S.H. Ho College members and students began their extraordinary Taiwan journey — to explore Taiwan aboriginal inhabitant culture. To all the participants, it was their first ever encounter with Taiwan aboriginal culture. The group was much impressed by the inhabitants' passion, purity, friendliness and vibrant culture.

Prof. Lap-chee Tsui Shared on Becoming a Geneticist and Vice-Chancellor
The College's High Table Dinner on 15 January 2014 was graced by Prof. Lap-chee Tsui, the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Hong Kong. On the topic "A Little Bit of Luck and Serendipity but Lots of Passion", he shared with students and members his academic pursuit and personal stories on becoming a geneticist and the Vice-Chancellor. Other honourable guests at the high table included Dr. Tzu-leung Ho, Chairman of the Committee of Overseers, S.H. Ho College; Dr. K.K. Mark; Prof. Cheuk-man Yu, Head of Division of Cardiology; Prof. Kai-ming Chan, Professor of the Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology; and Prof. Samuel Sun, Master of S.H. Ho College.

Logos Fest Displayed Freshmen's Creativity
Logos Fest is an exhibition that displays our College freshers' Logos Production (心聲習作) in College General Education Induction Course— GESH1010 Orientation and Outreach. Logos Production (心聲習作) is scripted articulation of students' reflection in response to the course experience in general and the freshers' agenda in particular, namely, "My Dream", "My Study", "Our University" and "Our Voice". This annual Logos Fest took place in Chan Chun Ha Hall from 8 to 14 November 2013.

Award-winning General Education Essays
Four S.H. Ho students were presented the third General Education (GE) Student's Best Work Awards, and they attended the fifth GE Student Seminar which was organized by Office of University General Education on 16 November 2013 to present their award-winning essays. In the previous issue, Mr. Lau Wing Hong's essay on analyzing the objective and implementation of Moral and National Education Curriculum Guide is covered. Three essays receiving Best Work Awards are introduced in this issue.

The 2nd S.H. Ho College Master's Cup
S.H. Ho College Master's Cup came to its second year after its kick off in 2012. With the student organizing committee's enthusiasm and detailed arrangement, the first event Table Tennis competition was held after the opening ceremony during the communal dinner on 30 October 2013. Master Sun was the adjudicator of the competitions.

The 7th Anniversary of S.H. Ho College: The SHHOW
The SHHOW, the annual large-scale student activity, was held in the evening of 26 November 2013 to celebrate the 7th anniversary of S.H. Ho College. The creative blended word "SHHOW" which combines "SHHO" and "SHOW" indicates the pageant is a talent show organized by students with the support of College. The pageant is now a tradition to celebrate the College's birthday with students' showcasing their talent and creativity every November.

Reaching New Horizons on Foot
S.H. Ho College initiated the Runner Force Programme in 2012. Participants receive training for distance races on a regular basis. The programme combines healthy lifestyle with seeing the world. Students' mental and physical health, perseverance and mind strength will be trained through running. Not only the participants' horizons are broadened, they can befriend with other runners and share their know-how and pleasure of running. Last year, the runners participated in "UNICEF Charity Run 2013" and "Riverside Winwin Run cum Charity Run for Activist Association".

Social Service Mentorship Training Camp
Social services are one of the core programmes at the College. S.H. Ho College Student Service Mentorship Programme is hereby organized, a year-long service programme in which S.H. Ho students will mentor F.2-4 students from secondary schools and collaborate to develop programme to serve the disadvantaged group. With encouragement and mentorship, it is hoped that the student mentors will develop coaching skills through mentoring the teenagers while the secondary school participants can develop a sense of self efficacy. To cultivate team spirit and equip soft skills of organizing activities, a training camp was held at S.H. Ho College campus and Breakthrough Youth Village from 30 November to 1 December 2013.

S.H. Ho College Fellow Prof. Dennis Lo Awarded King Faisal International Prize for Medicine
Prof. Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Director of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences and Fellow of S.H. Ho College at CUHK, has won the 2014 King Faisal International Prize for Medicine for his outstanding achievements in the research on non-invasive prenatal diagnosis.  Professor Lo is the second CUHK scholar being awarded the prestigious award after Prof. Yang Chen-ning, Nobel Laureate in Physics, Distinguished Professor-at-Large and Honourary Fellow of CUHK.  As testimony to the high caliber of the Prize recipients, many winners have gone on to win Nobel prizes for the same works that were recognized by King Faisal International Prize.  The winners will receive their awards at a ceremony in Riyadh under the auspices of the King of Saudi Arabia.

Delegations from Brown University and Peking University
In December 2013, S.H. Ho College received visitors from Brown University and Peking University respectively with the aim of enhancing mutual understanding and deepening collaboration.
