Turning service into learning |
Nothing is better than learning from experience. In order to help our
students gain work experience as well as serving the community, CUSCS, in
collaboration with St. James' Settlement and VISA Hong Kong, launched the "Serve
with a Purpose" Programme (SWAP) for the second year.

AKL student won 2nd Runner-up in Korean writing competition |
Karen Fung, a student of Higher Diploma Programme in Applied Korean Language, won the 2nd Runner-up in the "Hangul Writing Competition" organised by the Korean Women's Association of Hong Kong, The Consulate General, Korean Residents' Association and The Korean International School. The competition is open to Korean Nationals in Hong Kong or Hong Kong residents. Karen's short essay, titled "The Beauty of Korea", brought her the award.

KLECC hosts the 9th Korean Speech Contest |
CUSCS has been organising the Korean Speech Contest since 2005 to offer a platform for Korean Language learners in Hong Kong to showcase their talent and learn from others. The 9th Korean Speech Contest was held at the Central Learning Centre on 21 December, 2013.

Information Talk on Higher Diploma benefits secondary students and parents |
CUSCS held an Information Talk on 14 December, 2013 at the Central Learning Centre. Lecturers from different disciplines provided detailed information on programmes on offer and academic consultation for secondary students and their parents. In 2014-15, CUSCS will offer a total of 31 Higher Diploma Programmes among which "Visual Merchandising", "International Business" and "Social Work" are new programmes.

CU Alumni welcomed on CUHK Homecoming Day |
A CUSCS booth was set at the CUHK Homecoming Day on 7 December, 2013. CU Alumni and their family members gathered at the booth to paint eye masks at the games corner and take photos in "Hanbok" (Korean traditional clothing). More than 300 alumni visited the CUSCS booth on this fun-filled day.

Graduates honoured at Higher Diploma Programmes Graduation Ceremony 2013 |
With nearly 1,500 graduates, the Higher Diploma Programmes Graduation Ceremony was conducted at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, CUHK, on 30 November, 2013. More than 2,800 guests, graduates and their family members came together to celebrate. The Ceremony was divided into morning and afternoon sessions. Prof. Ho Puay-peng (何培斌教授), Chairman for the Advisory Board of Continuing and Professional Studies and Director of the School of Architecture, officiated at the morning session. He shared with graduates the importance of being creative in a globalised world.

Top-up Undergraduate Degree Programmes hold their graduation ceremonies |
CUSCS and Flinders University jointly offer two Top-up Undergraduate Degree Programmes in Hong Kong, namely the Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Digital Media). The Graduation Ceremony was held at Lecture Theatre, Shaw College, CUHK, on 30 October, 2013. Mr. Stephen Gerlach, Chancellor of Flinders University, and Dr. Ella Chan, Director of the School, officiated at the Ceremony. Degrees were conferred upon 42 graduates while Flinders Accounting Prize was awarded to Keung Kai-yiu, graduate of Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting), and the Flinders Digital Media Prize was awarded to Pun Hok-hin and Fok Tsz-hei, graduates of Bachelor of Creative Arts (Digital Media).

Part-time instructor Mr. Shum Kin-wai awarded the Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award 2013 |
Mr. Shum Kin Wai, a veteran pianist and CUSCS Part-time Instructor, was conferred the "Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award 2013". He is currently teaching "Diploma in Piano Teaching and Performance" and "Diploma in Collaborative Piano Studies" at the School. Congratulations!

Talent shown at the Graduation Exhibition of Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication Design) 2013 |
Thirty-three graduates of Bachelor of Design (Visual Communication Design) showcased their talent at the Graduation Exhibition themed "Cross Over" held at the Innovation Centre, Kowloon Tong, on 15-18 November, 2013. The Programme is jointly offered by CUSCS and Griffith University (GU), Australia, in Hong Kong. Prof. Paul Cleveland, Director of Queensland College of Art, GU, Mr. Donald Welch, Convenor of Bachelor of Design Transnational Program, GU, and Dr. Ella Chan, Director of the School, officiated at the opening ceremony of the Exhibition.

Inspiring visit to a gown factory |
Forty-three students of the Higher Diploma Programme in Fashion Design and Business visited Chelse Fashion Limited, a factory in Zhongshan which specialises in evening gowns. During the visit, students gained valuable knowledge about the design and production process of evening dresses and bridal gowns.
