Chinese New Year Greetings

In the blink of an eye, it will soon be Lunar New Year. The Chinese people love to say, "With the coming of a new cycle, everything is fresh". It means when the world returns to the beginning after a round, the earth will put on a spring outfit flourishing into prosperity.


SHHO Fellow Reaps Inaugural Future Science Prize
Prof. Dennis Lo Yuk-ming (Fellow of S. H. Ho College), Associate Dean (Research), Faculty of Medicine and Chairman, Department of Chemical Pathology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, recently attended Future Forum 2017-cum-inaugural 'Future Science Prize' Award Ceremony held in Beijing. Professor Lo received the 'Life Science Prize' for his seminal contribution to the widely-used non-invasive prenatal test based on the original discovery of fetal DNA in maternal blood which has benefited millions of pregnant women globally.

SHHO Fellows Shine on Research of Colorectal Cancer

Two fellows of S. H. Ho College were honoured with the State Natural Science Award for the research project on colorectal cancer (CRC). As one of the members in the research team, Prof. Francis KL Chan, Dean of Medicine and Prof. Simon SM Ng, Assistant Dean of Medicine (Learning Experience), The Chinese University of Hong Kong, have been investigating the epidemiology, screening, molecular pathogenesis and biomarkers of CRC for 15 years and have achieved remarkable results. The research team received the State Natural Science Award (SNSA) second-class award on 9 January.


Shooting for the Stars
Distinguished LED Artist Lights up Technology and Art

The forth High Table Dinner of S. H. Ho College in 2016-17 was held on 18 January. Mr. Teddy Lo, a distinguished artist, delivered a speech entitled "Shooting for the Stars – Sharing His Journey of Working in Variety of Local and International Lighting and Art Related Projects". In his 25-minute speech, Mr. Lo first recalled his growth and studies and then explained how technology and art lighted up his road. At last, he shared how to manage a business of art.


Ten Years of Love: Alumni Homecoming Day in Celebration of 10th Anniversary
Last year, the College launched a series of celebratory events including Anniversary Logo Design Competition, Writing and Creative Work Competition, Anniversary High Table Dinner, The SHHOW, "Treasures from Tang Dynasty" Exhibition—Prof. Kai Keung Mark's Collection of Chinaware from Changsha Kiln, "Ten Years of Bonding • Hundreds of Stitches" Exhibition. The Anniversary Alumni Homecoming Day was held on 26 November 2016 featuring a game booth, time capsule ceremony and reunion dinner. All participants enjoyed the activities thoroughly.

Harbin Winter Camp – A Journey to the Frozen World

Harbin is located in the northeastern region of China. In winter, the city becomes bitterly cold covered by snow. 10 S. H. Ho College students, however, were impressed by the vast expanse of whiteness, splendid and multicolored ice carving and a star-studded sky in the frozen city.


4th S. H. Ho College Medical Society Annual Dinner

The 4th S. H. Ho College Medical Society Annual Dinner was held on 28 November 2016. Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung, Vice Chancellor of CUHK; Dr Tzu-leung Ho, Chairman of the Committee of Overseers; Prof. Samuel Sun, College Master; Prof. Simon Ng, Assistant Dean of Faculty of Medicine; and other medical professors, students and alumni spent the night with music as the bridge to one another.


Appreciation Ceremony of Student Helpers
124  S. H. Ho students were presented with certificates of appreciation by Prof. Samuel Sun, College Master, at the Appreciation Ceremony on 1 December 2016 as commendation of their dedicated services to the College events. These students took up the role of volunteer helpers in the Orientation Day for undergraduate admissions held on 5 November; the 4th S. H. Ho College Graduation Ceremony held on 17 November; and the High Table, Cultural and Communal Dinner held in the 1st term of 2016-17. Without their voluntary service, the College events could not have been held so smoothly.

Tea Gatherings with Mainland Freshmen

On 25 November and 2 December 2016, more than 20 freshmen of the College from the mainland attended a tea gathering hosted by Miss Winnie Fung, College Student Counsellor, at The Wells located on the 3/F of Chan Chun Ha Hall. It will take some time for the freshmen to get adapted to the new life in Hong Kong, but they found rapport in the tea gatherings in which they played card games and shared their concerns and challenges.


Warm Christmas Party at Elderly Home

Christmas is more than holiday and shopping. It is also a time to convey a loving message. On 11 December 2016, S. H. Ho students brought small gifts to SAGE Madam Ho Sin Hang Home for the Elderly so as to celebrate an early Christmas. By interactive and fun games, dance and music performance, they wrapped the afternoon as a warm gift to the elderly. The elderly bade goodbye to the students with happy smiles on their faces.
