Visit of the Second Scientific Advisory Committee
|
Since the last visit by the first Scientific Advisory Committee in August 2012, the second Scientific Advisory Committee (the Committee) of the School of Biomedical Sciences, which was newly formed on 1 August 2015, paid its first visit to us between 25 and 29 January 2016.

CUHK Medicine 35th Anniversary Distinguished Lecture Series: Prof. Gong Xiaohua and Prof. Jerry Shay
|
To join in celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) was pleased to have invited Prof. Gong Xiaohua and Prof. Jerry Shay, two distinguished scholars in the world, to participate in the CUHK Medicine 35th Anniversary Distinguished Lecture Series. During their respective visits on 12 April 2016 and 20 April 2016, they not only delivered lectures but also had individual meetings to share expertise and experience with our Faculty members.

Public Lectures by New Programme 2016 – Biomedical Sciences

Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) was invited to be the guest speaker for the "Public Lectures by New Programme 2016 - Biomedical Sciences" organized by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (OAFA) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong on 26 February 2016.

Outreach and Promotional Events for the BSc in Biomedical Sciences Programme
|
To introduce the BSc in Biomedical Sciences Programme – a new undergraduate programme offered by the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) in September 2016, a series of outreach and promotional events were organized and coordinated by the BSc in Biomedical Sciences Programme Team from January to April 2016.

Five of our School members have recently been given the annual Teachers of the Year Awards (2016) by the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Prof. Cho Chi-hin being awarded Emeritus Professorship
|
Prof. Cho Chi-hin, formerly the Associate Director (Research) and presently Research Professor of our School, was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor by The Chinese University of Hong Kong with effect from 1 August 2016, in appreciation of his outstanding contributions to the University.

Outstanding Education Award received by Dr. Isabel S.S. Hwang
|
Dr. Isabel S.S. Hwang, Lecturer and member of the Teaching and Learning Unit of the School of Biomedical Sciences, was presented an Outstanding Education Award at the Teachers' and Students' Award Presentation Ceremony 2016 organized by the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 23 January 2016, in recognition of her passion and dedication to teaching and learning, and contribution to nurturing generations of devoted graduates to serve our society.

Our School was, another year, awarded as one of the "Competent Green Office 2015" under the University's Green Office Programme (GO!) coordinated by the Campus Planning and Sustainability Office (CPSO).

OUTREACH ENDEAVOURS
Plaque Unveiling Ceremony for MoE Key Laboratory of Regenerative Medicine
|
To commemorate the establishment of the Ministry of Education (MoE) Key Laboratory of Regenerative Medicine (The Chinese University of Hong Kong – Jinan University) (the Key Laboratory) following the granting of official operation approval by the MoE of People's Republic of China in December 2013, plaque unveiling ceremonies of the Key Laboratory were held in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, respectively, on 29 February 2016.

Delegation Visit from Monash University, Australia
|
Prof. Sarah Newton, Deputy Dean, External Relations, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University, Australia visited the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) on 4 March 2016. It was one of the visiting points scheduled in the itinerary of the delegation visit to the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), which was coordinated by the Office of Academic Links and the Faculty of Medicine, CUHK.

Mutual visits with the Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine
|
Led by Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), a delegation comprising Prof. Feng Bo, Prof. Vincent C.K. Cheung, Prof. Lu Gang, Prof. Xia Yin and Prof. Zhao Hui, visited the Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (GD-TCM) on 8 March 2016.

3rd Meeting of the Steering Committee on Collaboration between The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Chinese Academy of Sciences
|
Co-chaired by Prof. Fanny M.C. Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor / Vice-President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Prof. Tan Tieniu, Vice-President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the 3rd annual meeting of the Steering Committee on Collaboration between CUHK and CAS was held on 23 March 2016 in CUHK. Including members from the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), more than 30 CUHK and CAS members of various joint laboratories and projects attended the meeting and reported on their progress made in the past year.

Career Planning Talk 2016

The SBS Postgraduate Student Association (PSA) was pleased to have invited Ms. Liu Haijing Helen, our postgraduate alumnus, to share in a career planning talk on the topic "From Biomedical Sciences to Law" on 21 January 2016. This was another career planning talk since the previous one was held in the summer of 2015.

Ms. Liu Haijing, Helen obtained her MPhil degree in Biochemistry from the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2010 under the co-supervision of Prof. Christopher H.K. Cheng, SBS and Dr. Ken S.Y. Yeung, the Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology.
