Immortal Spirit

Our deepest sadness to the passing away of Dr Charles Wang Cheung Tze (60/CC/CHM) on 6 July 2007 in New York, USA at the age of 74. Although Dr Wang passed away, his caring spirit for his alma mater will live in our hearts and our minds always.

Dr Wang had given unfailing support to promote the development of his alma mater since his graduation. Starting from 1993, he had been elected a member of the Standing Committee, and convener of the Fundraising Sub-Committee of the CUHK Convocation. Under Dr Wang's leadership, the Fundraising Sub-Committee had launched several successful fundraising projects, such as charity movie premieres and round-the-campus walkathon, which had raised considerable funds for the development of the University.

Once said "My parents gave me life, and Chung Chi gave me education", Dr Wang was always thankful to the College for enriching his life and dedicated to give back to the College as well. He had actively taken part as a member of the Board of Trustees of Chung Chi College since 1990 and had chaired the Chung Chi College Alumni Association from 1998 to 2000. He had also contributed his experience and insight as Mentor to Chung Chi students since 1999.

Dr Wang had also donated to the Chung Chi Scholarship for Excellence every year since 1999 and established the "Dr Charles Wang Cheung Tze and Mrs Wang Chan Yuk Man Scholarship" endowment trust fund in 2007. The latter supports outstanding young scholars from the Mainland for their undergraduate studies at Chung Chi College.

Dr Wang's enthusiasm and thoughtfulness was a true blessing to his alma mater and certainly outweighed the value of any monetary gift. He set a good example by personally taking part in supporting the alma mater. His caring spirit for CUHK transcends time and will be passed on from one generation to the next via friends and alumni of the University. Your continuous support is what makes the spirit thrive.
