Participation in the 3rd Academic Festival on Life Sciences across the Straits

Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), led a delegation comprising Prof. Woody W.Y. Chan, Associate Director (Graduate Education) and seven postgraduate students of our School to join the 3rd Academic Festival on Life Sciences across the Straits organized by the Graduate Association of the School of Life Sciences, Peking University between 26 and 28 June 2014.

Apart from our School delegation and the representatives of the host institution, delegation teams from National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan, Tsinghua University, Beijing and National Institute of Biological Sciences, Beijing, etc. were also invited to join this event, with an objective of promoting academic exchanges among postgraduate students from different institutions across the Straits who are engaging in various fields of life sciences research.

During the meeting, Prof. Chan Wai-yee was invited to deliver a keynote lecture to all the participants whereas our postgraduates were invited to give oral presentations on their research topics to compete for different prizes with students from other institutions. Being the first time for our School to take part in this tripartite event, three of our students, namely Ms. Hao Yuan, Ms. So Wing-yan and Ms. Lu Li finally won different prizes, as recognition of their outstanding presentations and high standard of research.

Immediately after the event, team leaders from our School had a short meeting with the representatives from National Tsing Hua University and Peking University to discuss about the arrangement for the next Academic Festival on Life Sciences across the Straits, and to explore the possibility of forming a consortium for promoting further academic exchange and interaction among the postgraduates.
