1. Why shouldn't you give your CWEM password to friends, or allow friends to use your account?

Have you ever given your CWEM password to your friends for Wi-Fi access or VPN connection? If so, you have already violated ITSC policies and guidelines on proper use of ICT facilities that "6.4 Users are forbidden to give/disclose their passwords to anyone or allow anyone to use their e-mail or computing accounts".

This policy is, on one hand, to protect you from potential information leakage resulted from password disclosure. Once you have given your CWEM password to someone, your privacy might severely be offended too. This happens because not only can they use your password for Wi-Fi service, but they can also login your MyCUHK account to view your e-mails, transcript, personal information and etc.

On the other hand, letting others use your account and password could be dangerous. You would not know whether they will further disclose it to someone else, or what they are going to do with your account. If your account has been used by someone for any improper (even not illegal) activities, you will still be responsible for it even though you are ignorant of it.

Letting others use your account and password is a violation of ITSC policies and is subject to ITSC penalties and College or Department disciplinary actions as described in section 9.2 of Policies & Guidelines on Access and Usage.

To protect your privacy, say NO when your friends ask your password for use of any kind!

NEVER give your CWEM password to anybody!
