Success in Obtaining Grants from the Research Grant Council’s General Research Fund

The Faculty of Engineering reports further success in its applications for the highly competitive research grants issued by the Research Grant Council (RGC).  In the recent round of applications to the General Research Fund (GRF) in 2020–21, the Faculty secured a total of $40.3 million from 51 GRF-funded projects.

Due to the small size of the Faculty, the total amount is not the highest among the engineering faculties in Hong Kong; however, the Faculty achieved a success rate of 51.6% for the 89 proposals ($36.5 million) submitted to the RGC Engineering Panel, and the overall success rate of $40.3 million, which also includes seven other proposals submitted by Faculty members to other RGC GRF panels to make a total of 96 proposals, is among the highest in Hong Kong and is well above the success rate of 36.7% (276 out of 751 applications submitted to the Engineering Panel) for all the institutions that receive RGC funding.
