Professor Wong Hoi Ying, Associate Dean (Student Affairs) and Professor Shannon Au, Assistant Dean (Student Affairs) introduced the Faculty and gave an overview of the admission requirements of SCIENCE programme, they also shared the diverse exchange and research opportunities available, information of Science, Technology And Research Stream (STARS), and career prospects of our graduates to prospective students.
The Faculty grasped the opportunity to organise a talk titled “High-performance Computing in CUHK Forefront Research” to allow secondary school students to have a taste of research. Professor Chu Ming Chung of Department of Physics invited four CUHK scientists to share how they use high-performance computer in their forefront research, they are:

Professor Chan Ting Fung
School of Life Sciences

High-performance Computing in Genome Science

Professor Patrick Lee

Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Engineering

Network Coding in Data Storage Applications

at Data Centers

Professor Amos Tai
Earth System Science Programme

Saving the Earth with Supercomputing

Dr. Lin Lap Ming

Department of Physics

When Einstein meets Supercomputing

And they talked about how high-performance computing plays a vital role when handling and analysing massive amount of data in the emerging field of interdisciplinary research. Full video of the Talk is now available on YouTube.
