Departments in main campus should plan for migrating their telephone lines to IP Phone System before the legacy PABX (Private Automatic Branch Exchange) Phone System is decommissioned in Dec 2016.
The IP Phone System was first deployed in the University in May 2010. It consolidates voice and data networks to provide an integrated, manageable and efficient communications network environment. Over 3,400 IP Phone sets and 3,900 additional Data Ports have been deployed in various colleges/faculties/departments both in main campus and at remote sites.
The IP Phone System offers a number of benefits to users which include:
- One staff one number so there is no need to have shared lines anymore
- Voicemail as a standard function
- Enjoying faster and easier move and change
- Getting one data port on each standard phone set with just one cable connection
- Knowing the callers as the names (if available) and the numbers of the callers would be displayed – Caller-ID
- Telephone directory search directly on phone set
- Creating up to 500 entries in your Personal Address Book and dialing from the address book with ease
- Conference calls with up to 7 other parties
- Free extension number calls to SZRI and CUHK(SZ) where IP Phone system has also been deployed
- Easier IDD calls
If your department still uses PABX Phone System, please contact ITSC IP Phone Support Team at x38877 or ipt@itsc.cuhk.edu.hk NOW! We shall work out a migration schedule with you to fit both your needs and our workload distribution.
