CUHK Hosts 2004 University Friendship Games
The Chinese University hosted the University Friendship Games 2004 from 1st to 3rd November 2004. The competition is a triennial sporting event organized by The Chinese University jointly with Peking University and the University of Taiwan. The event was inaugurated in 1995 on CUHK campus. Thereafter the three universities took turns to organize it every three years to promote friendship and cultural exchange.

Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University, officiated at the opening ceremony on 1st November. Three major events were organized this year: basketball (women's), badminton (men's and women's), and table tennis (men's and women's). The games ended with CUHK walking away with the badminton championship and Peking University clinching the basketball and table tennis championship titles.

The University also hosted a series of activities for the guests and participants. These included a tree planting ceremony, a seminar, sightseeing tours, and a closing party.

The next University Friendship Games will take place at Peking University in 2008, the year of the Beijing Olympics.
