The Chinese University of Hong Kong has appointed the following individuals as chair professors.
Dr. Lee Shui Shan
Professor of Infectious Diseases
Dr. Lee has been appointed professor of infectious diseases in the Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases. He is expected to assume duty on 3rd May 2005.
Dr. Lee, MBBS, MD (HKU), FRCP (Glas), FRCPA, FRCP (Edin), MFPH, FHKCCM, FHKAM (Medicine), has been consultant physician and head of the Special Preventive Programme, Department of Health of the Hong Kong Government, since 1991. He has also been honorary consultant at the Department of Medicine and Geriatrics, Princess Margaret Hospital since April 2002 and honorary professor at the Department of Microbiology, The University of Hong Kong since October 1999.
Prof. Wing C. Suen
Professor of Economics
Prof. Suen has been appointed professor of economics in the Department of Economics. He is expected to assume duty on 2nd July 2005.
Prof. Suen has been professor at the School of Economics and Finance at The University of Hong Kong since 2001. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1988. He was visiting scholar at the Harvard-Yenching Institute, Harvard University (2001-2002), visiting associate professor at the Department of Economics, Simon Fraser University (1994-1995), and visiting scholar at the Department of Economics and Center for the Study of the Economy and the State, University of Chicago (1988-1989).
Prof. Michael J. McConville
Professor of Law
Prof. McConville has been appointed professor of law in the School of Law. He is expected to assume duty by summer 2005.
Prof. McConville has been professor of law at the University of Warwick since 1989. He obtained his LLB from London University in 1971 and his Ph.D. from Nottingham University in 1975. He was Walter E. Meyer Professor at New York University (1984-1985), chairman of the School of Law of the University of Warwick (1993-2001) and dean of the School of Law of City University of Hong Kong (2001-2004).
