Reunion Anniversaries for "2" and "7"

There are national anniversaries and there are wedding anniversaries ……but "reunion anniversary"? Every year, the CUHK Homecoming specially invites alumni who have graduated for a number of years that are multiples of 5 to celebrate their "reunion anniversaries". This year, classes in years ending with 2's and 7's will be of the highlights.

The Numbers
The number of alumni from the reunion anniversary classes of the 2007 Homecoming is over 15,000, taking up about 15% of the entire graduate population. Over 80% of them obtained their Bachelor's degrees at CU, among which, Chung Chi graduates form the largest group (3,473), followed by graduates from United (3,394), New Asia (3,318) and Shaw (1,817). Postgraduate figures (3,201) have also been on a rapid rise in recent years.

The Years and Faculties
A total of 5,410 alumni of the reunion anniversary classes are graduates from the 90's. The figure outnumbered the sum of the graduates from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's by a thousand. Categorized by faculties, Social Science (2,809), Arts (2,486) and Science (2,358) graduates form the majority of the reunion anniversary classes.

The Name
"Chan" (1,211), "Wong" (799), "Lee" (567), "Leung" (531) and "Lam" (425) prevail as the top 5 most common family names in the anniversary classes. The more uncommon surnames include "Dong (冬)" (literally meaning "winter"), "Yu (羽)" ("feather"), "Chiao(巢)" ("nest"), "Nou (鈕)" ("button") and "Yun (雲)" ("cloud") .

The first batches of graduates of Hotel and Tourism Management, Master of Architecture, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering and more will also celebrate their reunion anniversaries this year. The 2007 Homecoming would be of special memory to them.
