Prof. Jonathan CHOI received Croucher Innovation Award

Prof. CHOI Chung-hang Jonathan from the Biomedical Engineering Programme received the Croucher Innovation Award 2016 worth HK$5 million. He is the first ever recipient from CUHK since the inauguration of this award by the Croucher Foundation in 2012.

Prof. CHOI's research interests lie in drug delivery, molecular diagnostics, "bio-nano" interactions, bio-nanomaterials, and biological imaging. With this award, he will continue to engineer novel nanoparticle-based approaches for delivering drug molecules to challenging destinations inside the body. Specifically, he is working with CUHK physicians to build nanoparticles for tackling atherosclerosis and renal fibrosis.

Prof. CHOI remarked, "It is a humbling experience and my deepest honour to have this prestigious award bestowed upon my work. Since biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary programme, the Croucher Innovation Award will empower me to forge more fruitful research collaborations with the Faculties of Medicine and Science." Prof. CHOI also added, "As a native of Hong Kong, I also hope to inspire more young and talented Hong Kong students to pursue a career in science and engineering."
