After more than a decade of incubation, development and strategic planning, CUHK launched the first Department of Biomedical Engineering in Hong Kong on 1 July 2017 in the Faculty of Engineering in close collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine.  The new Department will host all the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Biomedical Engineering to further their coherent development, and to scale new heights in this important area of education, research and professional services.

Building upon a rich foundation in biomedical engineering research, the department has a passionate team of professoriate staff and experts today. It is envisaged that the CUHK BME team should further expand in the near future.

As biomedical engineering is moving from bench to bedside, close collaboration between engineers and clinicians is becoming essential. The Department will continue to build on its strengths in engineering and medicine, and, driven by clinical aspirations, to innovate better medicine for the future. CUHK has recently launched two major research initiatives related to BME, which are CUHK's Institute of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (iTERM) and Chow Yuk Ho Technology Centre for Innovative Medicine. Both initiatives will be our key partners in the future development of BME. Our colleagues are all eager to further reinforce the collaboration with our partners and friends around the world.
