On 3 November 2014, the second general meeting on Promoting Chinese as an International Academic Language among the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Peking University (PKU), Nanjing University (NJU), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and Taiwan University (NTU) was held in Beijing, following the first meeting which was held on CUHK campus in June 2014.

Participants joining the meeting included Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, Prof. Fan Conglai, Assistant President of NJU, as well as Deans and representatives of humanities and social sciences from the 5 universities. Discussions were held on topics in relation to the academic assessment of Chinese publications, the recognition of Chinese as an international academic language and evaluation guidelines on assessing academic Chinese journals in the three regions.

The meeting served as a platform for cross-strait institutions to collaborate on the recognition of Chinese publications and to address the issues in academic assessment systems. The participating parties agreed to work on a recognized list of quality Chinese journals in the greater China region with the goal of promoting international recognition of Chinese academic works in global research arena.
