A Walk in Community with I·CARE: Second Session Completed

The second session of A Walk in Community with I·CARE organised by this Centre was successfully held on 10 November.  The participating CUHK students visited Kowloon West PHAB Centre in Lai Kok Estate of Cheung Sha Wan, which is one of the service centres of Hong Kong PHAB Association.  Not only did they gain first-hand experience of the challenges encountered by wheelchair users, but they have also enhanced their understanding of universal accessibility.

During the activity, students had a grasp of different assistive tools used by the physically handicapped.  Under the guidance of the instructors, they simulated wheelchair users to shop around Lai Kok Estate and to use the automatic teller machine.  They were enabled to experience the daily life of wheelchair users and to review the barrier-free access facilities in the community.

A Walk in Community with I·CARE has come to an end for this term.  This Centre will organise further sessions in the second term to allow students to understand different local societies and the new initiatives on developing a sustainable community.  Stay tuned for our announcements.
