Recently, there have been some phishing e-mails sent to CUHK users that appear to be sent by ITSC or CUHK requesting users to confirm or validate their e-mail account, password and personal information by replying to the sender or by clicking a hyperlink in the e-mails. Please note that ITSC or CUHK will NEVER ask for your e-mail password. Verify the e-mails When you receive a similar suspected e-mail, you should NEVER reply to the e-mail or click any hyperlink in the e-mail. If it is a new case, report to your LAN administrator or ITSC.
Consequences if information is provided After collecting your passwords, hackers might use your personal accounts to send out an abundance of spam. This may cause some e-mails service providers, e.g. Window Live Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail, to blacklist our e-mail system for the sake of protecting their users. Hence, all CWEM users cannot e-mail them. Hackers might also do further harm by using your e-mail accounts. Remedies In case you responded to these phishing e-mails and provided your CUHK e-mail password, please contact us IMMEDIATELY at infosec@cuhk.edu.hk
