The two universities explored collaboration in Oncology, Chinese Medicine, Computer Science, South China Studies, and student activities. In addition to the recent collaboration projects, the two universities agreed to build a closer collaborative linkage by launching staff exchange programmes, establishing joint units and joint programmes.

In the meeting, Prof. Lau and Prof. Huang, signed a renewal collaboration agreement, the Agreement on Establishing the Joint Centre of Comparative Cultures and Regional History, and the Agreement on Joint Undergraduate Programme.

In 2007, CUHK and SYSU already set up the Steering Committee on Collaboration to explore possible areas of cooperation. The first committee meeting, co-chaired by Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, and Prof. Xu Ningsheng, Vice President of SYSU, was held on 6 October t SYSU.
