Spreading the Olympic Spirit

The Chinese University community has helped spread the Olympic Spirit in various ways.

8 CU alumni were selected as torchbearers in the Hong Kong Torch Relay. They include renowned squash player Rebecca CHIU Wing Yin (00/UC/SPE), Paralympic athlete Nelson YIP Siu Hong (91/UC/STA; 04/GS/MBA), ophthalmologist Dr. Dennis LAM Shun Chiu (03/GS/DMD), Principal of Diocesan Girl's School Stella LAU KUN Lai Kuen (95/GS/EDU), Principal of Hang Seng College of Commerce CHUI Hong Sheung (75/SE/PMA; 88/GS/EDU), LEUNG Siu To (06/CC/IFA), Dr. Diane TAI Hei Yan (06/NA/MED) and YUEN Yuen Kin (06/CC /SPE).

In addition, alumni Daniel LEE Chi Wo (99/SC/SPE) and Nelson YIP Siu Hong (91/UC/STA; 04/GS/MBA) will represent Hong Kong to take part in the Olympic Triathlon and Paralympic Equestrian Events respectively, exemplifying the Olympic spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.

On campus, as a tribute to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, CUHK is staging a carnival on 16 August to showcase the University's support in promoting international friendship, Olympism and culture.
