2011 Academic Symposium on Control and Automation jointly organized with National Natural Science Foundation of China

2011 Academic Symposium on Control and Automation, co-organized by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Division of Information Science of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), was held from 17 to 20 October 2011.

Guests officiated at the opening ceremony included Academician Prof. Chai Tianyou, Director of Division of Information Science of NSFC; Prof. Pan Yonghua, Director General of Education, Science and Technology, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR; Prof. Xu Yangsheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Prof. Wang Yi, Deputy Director of Hong Kong, Macau & Taiwan Affair Office, NSFC; and Mr. Kwok Ming Wa, Vice President of Beijing - Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre.

 

Over 50 leading scholars and postgraduate students from the mainland and Hong Kong in the field of Control and Automation attended the Symposium and 25 talks were delivered. Academician Prof. Chai Tianyou, Prof. Wing Wong, Dean of Graduate School, Professor of Information Engineering of CUHK and Prof. Tan Zizhong, Director of Center for Quantum Information of Tsinghua University, gave key note speeches on the first day of the Symposium.

 

Scientists and scholars participating in the Symposium met with representatives from Faculty of Engineering of CUHK and visited laboratories and relevant research centers, learning more about the latest research development of CUHK in science and technology. The representatives from both sides used the opportunity to exchange ideas and build up links.

 

The Symposium provided a platform for exchange of expertise and research progress in the area of Control and Automation. It also served the purpose of fostering dynamic academic exchange and research collaboration among the scientists from mainland China and Hong Kong. Since 2007, CUHK and NSFC have co-organized annual academic symposium with different themes. Previous topics included Bio-informatics and Its Applications, Chemical Biology, Condensed Matter and Optical Physics, and Developmental Studies in Health and Diseases.
