A Congregation Comparable to a Man-Han Banquet

The renowned Man-Han Banquet is a magnificent feast featuring more than 300 dishes of southern and northern cuisines and lasts for 3 days. The Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees held last month also lasted for 3 days. Its scale was comparable to that of a Man-Han Banquet.

You may wonder why the first batch of CU degree holders had their congregation in one single day while it took three days to complete the most recent Congregation? The main reason is the drastic increase in the number of graduates over the years.

In 2006, the number of students graduated reached a record high of 6,953! Dated back 40 years ago in 1966, the number of graduates was just 300. Even in 1986, the number was only 1,700. However, the number of graduates in the recent two decades had grown rapidly. The total number of graduates in the last 20 years is an impressive 77% of our entire graduate population.

One more feature to note: although bachelor degree recipients still form the largest group in the graduate population, postgraduate figures have overtaken those of undergraduates' since 2003. Take the year of 2006 as an example, 4,171 out of 6,953 graduates (i.e. 60%) were postgraduates. This tendency is likely to continue in the years to come.
