CUHK has been recognized as the most innovative university in Hong Kong and ranked 27th in the Asia-Pacific region by the latest 'Reuters: Asia Pacific's Most Innovative Universities'.

In particular, an engineering research study has been mentioned as an integral part of the ranking.  Prof. Liu Yunhui, Department of Mechanical Automatic and Engineering, has helped factories and warehouses operate more efficiently thanks to the development of an autonomous forklift designed to navigate obstacles independently. A startup called VisionNav Robotics Ltd was created in 2015 to commercialize the technology. By April 2016, it had received more than HK $15 million in venture capital funding.
