5. University Software Standards – Jan 2012 Updates

ITSC has reviewed and updated the University software standards in Jan 2012. In the recent revision, we have listed Windows 7 Enterprise Edition 32-bit, Office 2010 Professional Plus and Internet Explorer 8 as "Recommended" software in the standard.

a.    Licensing

Windows 7 Enterprise and Microsoft Office 2010 are included in the Microsoft Campus License Agreement. They are available for free. Please refer to University Software Licensing for more information.

b.    Hardware requirement

Here is the hardware requirement for Windows 7, and here is the hardware requirement for Microsoft Office 2010. These requirements are recommended by Microsoft and are minimal. For better performance, more powerful hardware is needed. Please consult your IT support if necessary.

c.    Training

There are some online training materials for Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 available in ITSC Training webpage. For details, please click here.

ITSC is also coordinating some instructor-led training courses. Details will be announced in April.

d.    Compatibility

Please refer to Microsoft compatibility center for more information.

e.    Enquiry about University Software Standards

For more information about the Standards, please click here. For enquiries, please write to ITSC Electronic HelpDesk.

Adopting the University software standards is beneficial to the overall IT development of the University as standardization helps facilitate intra-campus collaboration and electronic document exchange, shortens software adoption time, and reduces software training and support costs.
