On 4 June 2014, a general meeting on Promoting Chinese as an International Academic Language among the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Peking University (PKU), Nanjing University (NJU), Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and Taiwan University (NTU) was held on CUHK campus.
Participants joining the meeting included Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, Prof. Liu Wei, Executive Vice-President of PKU, Prof. Zhou Xian, Associate President of NJU, Deans and representatives in the field of humanities and social sciences from the six institutions. Discussions were held on topics in relation to the academic assessment of Chinese publications, the recognition of Chinese as an international academic language and evaluation guidelines on assessing academic Chinese journals in the three regions.
The meeting served as a platform for cross-strait institutions to collaborate on the recognition of Chinese publications and to address the issues in academic assessment systems. The participating parties agreed to work on a recognized list of quality Chinese journals in the greater China region towards the goal of promoting international recognition of Chinese academic works in global research arena.
