To encourage non-local students to appreciate the multi facets of Hong Kong, post-exam activities, a tour of Shek Kip Mei and Tai O, will be organised in early June.  

1.     Mei Ho House and Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre: Back to the 1950s Hong Kong

 

You may know that public housing emerged in the 1950s Hong Kong, but do you have any idea about the outlook and structure of these buildings? Also, have you ever heard of cottage industry? Why was it so popular between 1950s and 1970s?

 

Let's get a glimpse of the development of Hong Kong in the 1950s through visiting the architectural conversion of Mei Ho House and Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre.

2.     Tai O Excursion: One day in 'Venice'

 

Tai O is famed for its seafood (shrimp paste, salted fish and egg yolk), stilt-houses and fishing culture. It is well known as Venice of the Orient. Tai O was one of the Hong Kong's most important fishing pots for more than 200 years. It was also famous for salt industry in the 1930s and 1940s. Although these industries are now obsolete, the traditions still remain in Tai O. If you want to have a different taste of Hong Kong, don't miss this trip!
