The Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) Academicians Visit Programme was held from 18 to 22 March 2013. This year, five CAS Academicians from the Division of Life Sciences and Medicine joined the delegation, comprising Prof. Shen Yan, Vice President of the National Natural Science Foundation of China; Prof. Chen Lin, of Institute of Biophysics, CAS; Prof. Rao Zihe, Former President of Nankai University; Prof. He Lin, Director of Bio-X Institute at Shanghai Jiao Tong University; and Prof. Lin Hongxuan, Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology, CAS.
The delegates were warmly received by CUHK senior officers including Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Research Committee; Prof. Francis Chan, Dean of Faculty of Medicine; and Prof. Henry Wong, Dean of Faculty of Science. The delegation paid visit to the Faculties of Medicine and Science, and toured research facilities in the Schools of Biomedical Sciences and Life Sciences to learn more about the latest research development of the University. Representatives from CUHK and CAS took the opportunity to exchange ideas and explore possibilities for further collaboration.
On 20 March, the five academicians delivered public lectures in the Lecture Series by Academicians, sharing their expertise and views in life sciences. More than three hundred people including academics, researchers and students from CUHK and other universities as well as members from the general public were attracted to the lectures.
CAS Academicians Visit Programme was launched by the University in 2008 to promote academic exchange with CAS. Under this programme, 5-6 CAS academicians are invited to visit CUHK and deliver public lectures for the Lecture Series by Academicians each year.
