Prof. Arthur S. Levine, Senior Vice Chancellor for the Health Sciences and Dean of School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong on 25 April 2012.

The School has a Memorandum of Understanding with University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine on personnel exchange and scientific collaboration.  After signing the MOU in May 2010, both parties co-hosted an academic symposium on stem cell and regenerative medicine in June 2011.  Prof Levine visited CUHK in order to further solidify our collaborations. After meeting with Prof. Jack C.Y. Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Levine visited the School of Biomedical Sciences and met with our School members including Prof. Chan Wai-Yee, School Director, Prof. Cho Chi-Hin, Associate Director (Research), Prof. Fung Kwok-Pui, Associate Director (Administration), Prof. Kenneth K.H. Lee, Chief of Stem Cell and Regeneration Program and Prof. Li Gang, Deputy Chief of Stem Cell and Regeneration Program.  During the meeting, they updated each other on the latest developments of and the major research initiatives (especially relating to stem cell biology and regenerative medicine) undertaken by both Schools.

Aside from identifying areas in which scientists from our School and University of Pittsburgh could have fruitful collaborations, it was also agreed that our School will organize a meeting together with University of Pittsburgh, Tsinghua University and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in the summer of 2013.  The visit was wrapped up by a dinner hosted by Prof. Chan Wai-Yee with participation of members from the School including Prof Kenneth K.H. Lee and Prof Li Gang and colleagues from our Faculty including Prof. Ng Ho-Keung, Acting Dean and Associate Dean (Education), Prof. Anthony T.C. Chan, Associate Dean (External Affairs), and Prof. Daniel T.P. Fong of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

The visit further enhanced mutual understanding and strengthened the ties between the two parties which will be conducive to the development of long-term collaborative relationship.
