 Transformative Open Access Agreements

The Library has signed a transformative agreement pilot with the Cambridge University Press and Karger publishers. During the 3-year pilot (2021-2023), CUHK researchers can publish Open Access articles with the APC fully waived.

DMP Guides You to a Better Data Management Practice

Data Management Plan (DMP) is a document in which researchers plan the details of data management in a research. To support CUHK researchers to create DMPs, the Library has developed various DMP services and trainings.

Transformative Open Access Agreements

Open access (OA) is a scholarly publishing model that makes research information immediately available to the public free of charge, which is becoming a global trend. To publish an OA article, authors usually need to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC) to the publishers. Under a Transformative Agreement, the library subscription fee paid to the publishers is partially allocated for paying the APC on behalf of the institution's authors.

CUHK Library has negotiated transformative pilot agreements with Cambridge University Press and Karger Publishers. During the 3-year pilot scheme (2021-2023), all eligible CUHK researchers can publish their OA articles in journals of Cambridge University Press or Karger with the APC fully covered. Cambridge University Press publishes more than 370 journals covering subjects across the humanities, social sciences and science, technology and medicine, and Karger publishes nearly 100 journals covering a wide range of biomedical science subjects from audiology and speech to surgery.

The detailed information on author eligibility, journal options, and manuscript submission procedures is available at the Library Guide.

DMP Guides You to a Better Data Management Practice

A Data Management Plan (DMP) is a document in which researchers plan the details of data management for their research.  It is usually prepared at the proposal writing stage and forms part of a research proposal.  It covers data collection, documentation and metadata, ethics and legal compliance, storage and backup, selection and preservation, data sharing, as well as responsibilities and resources.  Considering these aspects in advance promotes a better practice in managing data throughout the research and data life cycles.

To support CUHK researchers to create DMPs, the Library has developed a DMP service using the DMPTool, an open-source, online application supported by the University of California Curation Center. Researchers can refer to the DMP guidance provided by different institutions.  Many DMP templates from US funders are available in the DMPTool.  The Library has added templates of popular funding agencies for CUHK research projects, such as the Medical Research Council (UK), and we welcome more template suggestions.

The Library offers various training on DMPs.  The Library Guide on Data Management Plan discusses what DMP is and its content, the rationale of writing a DMP, and resources on DMP.  It also provides step-by-step instruction on creating DMPs with the DMPTool.

Online workshops on DMPs are also available.  The workshop “Mastering Data Management Plan in One Hour” was held in Fall 2020; the recording is available here.  A workshop focusing on the use of DMPTool, “Writing Data Management Plans with DMPTool was  held in March 2021 (recording).  If you would like to get more news about the workshop on DMPs, please visit the Library website.
