2. Things that Need to Change Under the New Phone Number Prefix 3943 and 5-digit Extension

The new University telephone phone number prefix 3943 and the 5-digit extension numbers have been implemented on 2 Jun 2011 and 2 Jan 2012 respectively. Now, all called parties will see 394 3xxxx as Caller-IDs for all calls from the CUHK Telephone System and you have to dial 5-digit extension numbers for internal call. As a reminder, the old phone number prefixes will NOT be valid effective from 1 May 2012.

Things that need to change:

  1. Change the voice mail contents and personalized greetings on your phone set that reference the old phone number prefix 2609/2696/3163.
  2. Publish 394 3xxx on new stocks of all printed materials including posters, banners, road signs, letterheads, business cards, etc. To preserve the environment, reprinting should be avoided if possible.
  3. Update all electronic publications or messages to reflect the new prefix 394 3xxxx as soon as is practicable. These include website information (both department and personal), email signatures, out-of-office auto-reply email messages, etc.

Please visit http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/ip-phone/ for the latest news of the new telephone system.
