1. New CUHK eLearning System for the New Undergraduate Curriculum

As announced in ITSC Digest Issue 123, the University will implement a new eLearning system – "Blackboard" by Aug 2012, in time for the new undergraduate curriculum. The new CUHK eLearning System will gradually replace the existing eLearning platforms (WebCT and Moodle) and CUForum to support teaching and learning activities of the whole University.

To ensure a smooth transition, the project team will assist current users of WebCT, Moodle and CUForum to migrate to the new system by conducting various trainings, briefings and workshops. The project team will also keep everyone informed of the implementation progress through the project website at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/eLearning/elearn.

a.    Implementation Schedule

The new eLearning System will be implemented using a phased transition approach. According to the tentative schedule, WebCT will be decommissioned by Aug 2012 while technical support for Moodle and CUForum will cease by Aug 2013.

The project team is now meeting with teaching staff to brief them about the implementation plan and how the project team can prepare them for the migration. If you would like a similar briefing session for your unit, please contact us.

b.    Course Migration and Content Checking

ITSC will provide teaching staff with course migration services to migrate courses from WebCT, Moodle and CUForum to the new system. A checklist will be prepared and provided to guide teaching staff on checking of the migrated courses when they are available.

c.    Hands-on Opportunities and Training Workshops

Staff and students are welcome to join the preview in the role of students by a pre-registration. Besides, teaching and supporting staff can also get hands-on experience of the new system through:

l  The Pilots – try real teaching on the new system before its official launch

l  The Development Sandbox – try developing course sites on the new system

In addition to the open-to-all hands-on training workshops, we offer tailored hands-on workshops for different departments/programs to serve their specific teaching needs, please contact us for details.

For details of the above, please visit the project website at: http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/eLearning/c_systems/elearn/implementation.html
