CUHK Receives Guangdong Province Science and Technology Award

The scientific research project of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) entitled "Core Technology, System Construction and Clinical Application of A New Multimodal Imaging Diagnosis and Treatment of Liver Cancer" receives the First Prize in Science and Technology Progress of the Guangdong Province Science and Technology Award. The award presentation ceremony was held on 25 March at 2019 Guangdong Province Science Technology and Innovation Convention. A total of 179 projects were awarded among which 7 projects are from Hong Kong universities with topics ranging from new materials in 5G technology to environmental and biomedical science.

The awarded project from CUHK was led by CAS academician Professor Joseph Lau from the Faculty of Medicine in collaboration with Southern Medicial University and Lanzhou University. Spending more than 10 years of research, this innovative project has developed a digital intelligent diagnosis and treatment system based on the core technology of multimodal image diagnosis and treatment for liver cancer, becoming a new model of early diagnosis and treatment for the disease. Professor Lau has been actively promoting the model through multiple academic conference presentations and conduction of classes. This technology has already been used in more than 500 hospitals

Buiding an international science and technology innovation center is a crucial part of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The Guangdong provincial award in science and technology has been providing an essential platform to boost the collaboration progress in the Greater Bay Area, facilitating the accomplishment of high level innovation and research.
