The topping-out ceremony of the Ma Kam Chan Memorial Building, the main building of the Community College established by the Chinese University and the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) took place on 21st March. Officiating at the ceremony were The Hon. Prof. Arthur K.C. Li, Secretary for Education and Manpower of the HKSAR, Mr. Eddie Wang, TWGHs chairman, Prof. Kenneth Young, acting vice-chancellor, CUHK, and Prof. Richard M.W. Ho, president of the CUHK – TWGHs Community College.
The Chinese University and TWGHs have always supported the development of education in Hong Kong. In 2002, the two jointly established a community college to cater to the needs of a knowledge-based economy. The college will produce high-quality talents for Hong Kong. Offering full-time and part-time pre-associate degree and associate degree programmes, the college comprises four faculties: they are Chinese Medicine and Health Care, Business Administration and Tourism Management, Information Technology and Digital Design, Humanities and General Education. The college has two campuses, located respectively in Shan Tung Street, Mongkok, and Wylie Road. The former has two 24-storey annexes and were in use in September 2005. The 21-storey Ma Kam Chan Memorial Building is expected to be completed this September. It has a total floor area of 14,000 square metres with advanced built-in IT and teaching facilities.
