Keynote speech by Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK
The opening ceremony on March 12 was officiated by Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Prof. Gordon Cheung, APAIE President and Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK. Mrs. Cherry Tse, Permanent Secretary for Education, gave a welcoming remark, highlighting Hong Kong's niche as an education hub of the region. Following the opening ceremony, Professor Sung gave a keynote address to enlighten the audience on the impact and lessons brought by SARS to Asia.
Keynote speech by Madam Zhang Xiuqin, Director General, Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education, People's Republic of China
On March 13, another keynote speaker Madam Zhang Xiuqin, Director General, Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education, People's Republic of China, spoke on the development and globalization of higher education in China and the great advancements in international collaborations and exchanges in the domain of education.
Over 110 proposals presented in 46 parallel sessions
Over 110 proposals were presented under the strands of 'Region Reports', 'Student Mobility and Support Services', 'Partnerships and Collaborations', 'Programmes, Models and Curriculum' and 'Internationalization Strategies' in 46 parallel sessions. Presenters included key decision makers, senior executives, professionals, government officials, and key players in the fields of institutional collaborations and partnerships from all around the world. CUHK is honoured to have distinguished presenters to speak on major education policies, initiatives and achievements in different regions to facilitate mutual understanding and cross-region collaborations and research among the participants. Senior representatives from leading Chinese universities also shared their strategies and experiences in international exchange and joint collaboration programmes with overseas institutions.

91 exhibitors, totaling 157 booths
Ninety-one exhibitors including universities and service providers showcased their programmes and services in 157 exhibition booths. The exhibitors came from 31 regions, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Lithuania, Macao, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Poland, Republic of Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, The Netherlands, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States. Over 80 university leaders and education experts participated in the Presidents' Roundtable
A featured event of the conference is a Presidents' Roundtable held on March 13 where over 80 senior officers of selected partner universities took part in a high-level exchange under the theme 'Strategic Dimensions in International Higher Education'. Views on topics such as new technology in education, social responsibility of universities and nurturing global citizens were exchanged, benefitting not only the participants but also the international academic community as a whole. Chaired by Prof. Joseph Sung, the roundtable involved four presidents who presented on the theme.
Leaders of international education associations spoke at the first ever Global Dialogue
The Global Dialogue was held for the first time at the annual APAIE Conference and Exhibition. Leaders of international education associations from five continents exchanged ideas under the theme 'Internationalisation of Higher Education in the Coming Century: Differences and Similarities, Trends, and Issues in Different Regions in the World'. The event drew enthusiastic discussions from a full house of audience. The speakers included President of APAIE, Prof. Gordon Cheung, and four other international higher education representatives from different regions of the world.
Gala dinner with cultural performances
To add cultural flavour to the conference, a Gala Dinner kicked off with a stunning dragon dance and a face-changing performance was held on March 13. Participants were fascinated by the African drum and Chinese music ensemble performances by students from CUHK's Department of Music while enjoying a taste of Chinese cuisine during the dinner.
