The funding was first extended to Hong Kong and Macau young scientists in 2019 to support their development in areas of their own choices. Professor Martin Li, whose research interest lies on geometric analysis, will continue to develop his research on theory of minimal surfaces with boundary and explore new applications in three-dimensional topology, conformal geometry, and calibrated geometry. While Professor Kim Chow, who has been focusing on the research of metabolic plasticity and neurodegenerative disorders, will perform integrated metabolomics and transcriptomic analyses to better understand the underlying mechanisms in cerebellar ataxia, a rare genetic disease. Each of them will receive a funding of RMB1.2 million in support of their research work.
