To facilitate linkage and communication among leaders of member universities of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance (GHMUA) while enhancing the standards of professional management, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized the first GHMUA Senior Member Interflow Programme from 9 to 15 June. A total of 21 senior members from 11 universities in Guangdong Province and the Macao SAR participated in the programme.
Professor Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wong Suk Ying and Dr. Daniel Lee, Associate Vice-Presidents of CUHK welcomed the participants on behalf of the University. Professor Fok officiated at the Opening Ceremony together with Mr. Zhu Chao Hua, Deputy Director General of Education Department of Guangdong; Dr. Choi Yuk-lin, Under Secretary for Education of HKSAR and Mr. Liu Zhiming, Deputy Inspector of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR (LOCPG), to give opening remarks.
The one-week programme comprised of visits to government and public organizations (including the Education Bureau (EDB), Independent Commission Against Corruption, and various local universities), supplemented by thematic lectures on the development of the Greater Bay Area, as well as tour to Hong Kong Science Park. The activities enabled participants to acquire a comprehensive understanding about recent updates of the local tertiary education and its administration, innovation and entrepreneurship, and development of scientific research under the initiative of the Greater Bay Area, while bolstering exchange among participants.
Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK remarked at the Closing Ceremony: "We hope university leaders can help consolidate current platforms of collaboration, whilst exploring targeted collaborative fields and leveraging complementary advantages. Inter-institutional exchanges will also enable members to achieve synergies and uplift the quality of collaboration with the aim of realizing long-term goal in the development of the Greater Bay Area."
Dr. Tai Zhongzhi, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), on behalf of the participants, echoed Professor Tuan's view in his speech with the hope that members of GHMUA can further exchanges, making reference to one another and rendering mutual assistance so as to pursue continuous and concerted developments.
Initiated by CUHK, SYSU and University of Macau in July 2016, GHUMA symbolizes the joint efforts among institutions of the three regions in pursuing excellence in the nurture of talents and the promotion of regional development and collaboration.
