Dear Students,
A warm welcome to the first issue of the Student Experience and Development Section (SEDS) e-Bulletin.
SEDS is a newly restructured section of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) that focuses on three main areas of student development and experience. These include experiential learning programmes, leadership development programmes implemented through training and student participation in student bodies, and orientation activities, both university-led and student-led, with the goal of providing students with impactful experiential learning opportunities. Our aim at SEDS is to nurture you to become socially responsible global citizens and leaders by offering a variety of whole-person development programmes and learning opportunities at local, regional, and international levels. It also administers a full range of I·CARE activities and programmes which have long inspired students to actively participate in social and civic services. We have been adapting to various challenges that emerged out of COVID-19 over the past few years. Following the stabilisation of the epidemic situation, you will be able to immerse yourself in this beautiful campus and relish a vibrant and fruitful university life at CUHK.
Through our dedicated staff and the comprehensive resources we have compiled for you, we will support, guide, and provide you with learning opportunities that will help you reach your personal and professional development goals. It is our sincere hope that you make good use of everything that OSA has to offer. If you need any advice or support, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Prof. Ko Wing-hung
University Dean of Students

Welcome Message from Section Head
|
|
|
Dear Students,
In this e-Bulletin of the Student Experience and Development Section (SEDS) of the Office of Student Affairs, you will find updates on the non-formal and informal learning opportunities, which comprise cultural activities, leadership development initiatives, entrepreneurship training, service-learning projects, volunteer work and funding support, offered by SEDS to facilitate your well-rounded personal growth.
It is understandable that many of you usually rank academic excellence as your highest priority. In fact, developing generic skills and advancing personal qualities are as equally important for your future professional pursuits. Nowadays, individuals with strong soft skills are highly sought-after recruits as employers no longer look for employees who are solely outstanding in subject knowledge. In this sense, joining our programmes or activities to foster your whole-person development is essential. I come to know many students who have transformed a great deal after engaging themselves in various whole-person development initiatives – they have moved from passive to proactive, from silent to talkative, from mentees to mentors, and from followers to leaders.
To establish a closer connection with you as well as all CUHKers, we have at recent opened a new Instagram account (@cuhk_osa_seds). Please do follow us to obtain our timely updates. We look forward to meeting you in person at our student development programmes and activities!
Dr. Tommy Law
Head, Student Experience and Development Section
