The Heat of Ransomware – Cyber Kidnapping

This year, we have been through with some notorious ransomware, WannaCry and Petya. Unlike the previous, ransomware is no longer only spread by phishing emails or fraud websites. They use multiple techniques to attack the whole world, especially utilizing the security vulnerability of operating systems.

Once attacked by ransomware, files will be encrypted and until now, there is no effective way to decrypt.

Tips to Prevent from Harm
Do save yourself from their prey. Here are some tips for you to protect your device:

  1. Ensure PC has up-to-date Windows updates, especially MS17-010.
  2. Ensure up-to-date anti-virus signatures from your anti-virus software such as Kaspersky or Windows Defender updated.
  3. Backup your files regularly and keep them in a separate and safe place.
  4. Do not open email/attachments from unknown/untrusted source.
  5. Ensure you have a "strong" system password.
