The XPLORER PRIZE (Mathematics and Physics)

Professor He Xuhua of Department of Mathematics has just received the XPLORER PRIZE (Mathematics and Physics) in recognition of his spirit of scientific exploration and potential for innovation.

Professor He is an internationally renowned scholar in pure mathematics. With his consuming interest in arithmetic geometry, algebraic groups, and representation theory, he has published 50 papers in SCI ranked mathematical journals and several publications in top mathematical journals including Annals of Mathematics, IHES, etc. His contributions to the fields have been widely recognised in the academia; he was awarded the Morningside Gold Medal of Mathematics in 2013 and had been an invited speaker at various top international academic conferences including the Current Development of Mathematics Conference in 2015 jointly hosted by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the International Congress of Mathematicians in 2018, the quadrennial and largest conference for the topic of mathematics.

In 2020, he was the first group of Hong Kong scholars to receive the XPLORER PRIZE (Mathematics and Physics). The award, aiming to foster and promote research on basic science and frontier technology among young scientists, was jointly initiated by Mr. Ma Huateng, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tencent and founder of Tencent Foundation, and a number of renowned scientists including Professor Yang Chen Ning, Nobel Laureate in Physics. Professor He is grateful for the award as it not only recognises his endeavours, but also encourages him to further promote pure mathematics to the local, national, and global science community through his research work.
