A message from the Dean of Engineering

While time flies, some memories never fade. I have been the Dean of Engineering at CUHK for eight years now, but I always remember the day Professor Lawrence LAU, the former President of CUHK, convinced me to return to CUHK, the place where I had been an undergraduate for a few months immediately after high school, before leaving for the US.  Larry has been my mentor ever since.  His wise advice on how to run a top Faculty impressed me greatly, especially his opinion that becoming a top notch Faculty and University, all depends on the calibre of our faculty members and the standards for granting tenure and promotion.  The support from senior management also allows our Faculty to grow.

I have to express my sincere thanks to my colleagues at Faculty of Engineering, especially all present and former Associate Deans, Department Chairpersons and FAPC members who have supported me all these years.  In size, we are the smallest of all engineering schools in Hong Kong, but I believe we are one of the best.  Our faculty performed very well in RAE and RGC grants.  Over the years we have recruited an outstanding young faculty team.  In addition, we have put a great deal of energy into our UG teaching, and also developed the ELITE programme to motivate all students. For graduate programmes, we have migrated from "UK model" to "US model", and now offer more vigorous coursework and exams, plus better training for PhD.  I would also like to thank our students and supporting staff for their unflagging support.

I will definitely miss this place and all of you.
