Opening Ceremony of The Oasis
All participants enjoy a wonderful time at The Oasis.
Since the very beginning of S.H. Ho College, Like Reading Room was set up in Chan Chun Ha Hall, aiming at encouraging students to read a wide range of genres and broadening their exposures. Offering a panoramic view of the picturesque Tolo Harbour, the room is ideal for reading and meditation. After years of development, the function of Like Reading Room has been extended. Now, apart from being a place for reading books and introspection, it is also available for cultural activities and performances. In the past few months, renovation works were conducted at Like Reading Room, including raising the floor so that the space can be further enhanced for organizing diversified programmes. Like Reading Room is now renamed to The Oasis which means students may look for a snug and tranquil place for personal development there.

Sketching and Cultural Tour to Kyushu, Japan
The spectacular landscapes with spectacular waterfalls, streams, rocks and valleys are perfect sceneries for outdoor sketching practices.
From 16 to 21 May, 20 students of the College travelled with Prof. Ng Yuet-lau, a renowned Hong Kong painter and President of the Ling Ngai Association as well as six accomplished Chinese painters, to Kyushu, Japan for a sketching and cultural tour. They visited Kitakyushu, the northernmost city of Kyushu, where Beppu, Yufuin and Aso etc. are located. The picturesque landscapes there with spectacular waterfalls, streams, rocks and valleys are perfect sceneries for outdoor sketching practices. Having finished their first drafts of the artworks, they presented them to Prof. Ng for review. With the masterly guidance of Prof. Ng, students learned the importance of compositions, shadows and detailed conversions in paintings. The tutorials enhanced their drawing techniques intensively and instantly. In addition, during the trip, students were able to admire breath-taking nature in close distance, for example, the silk-like waterfall, the sheer cliff and the shimmering lake in reflection of sunlight. The experiences not only broadened their horizons, but also developed their genuine sense of wonder in praise of nature.

Social Service Trip to Hualien in Taiwan
Close bonding is successfully built between the students in Hong Kong and those in Fenglin.
From 29 May to 5 June, nine students of the College participated in the social service trip to the town of Fenglin in Hualien, Taiwan. They visited "The Secret Place of Kids", a non-profit organisation, and mentored primary and junior secondary indigenous students whose parents had left Fenglin to work in other cities in Taiwan. "The Secret Place of Kids" is dedicated to providing after school care to these young children and teens in order to prevent them from being left unattended and to identify their physical and emotional needs. This summer, students of the College became the voluntary mentors for the centre. They gave homework guidance, led group games, prepared meals and crafted handmade soaps. Through these activities, close bonding was successfully built between the students in Hong Kong and those in Fenglin. For students of the College, the trip is certainly meaningful because they made a difference in other people's life. The moments of togetherness of these days will become loving seeds in support of the Fenglin students for future growth. They can feel that they are cared by adults from far and near, and they never walk alone.
