Dear students,

Russia 2018 has come and gone.  I for one have already got the "World Cup Withdrawal Symptoms"!  Admittedly, there are so many memorable moments in the Russia 2018 matches that vividly illustrate the enchanting front of soccer and the beautiful character of athletes.  Despite the absence of Italy and the Netherlands, the five weeks' tournament (as started from 14 June) is packed with thrills and drama.  While people are shocked at the early exit of Germany and Argentina, the performance of Croatia has stunned the world.


Hong Kong Cultural Tours Project 2017-18: Maps Coming Soon

The Hong Kong Cultural Tours Project 2017-18 organised by this Centre was completed successfully.  40 CUHK students had received well-structured training before acting as docents between February and May 2018.  Over 500 students from 13 local secondary schools availed themselves of this service.  In addition, two theme-based tours were conducted for CUHK students and staff exclusively in mid-May.  46 participants turned up.


I·CARE Supports Character Day Hong Kong 2018: Bring Hope

The character traits under character education (e.g. "Gratitude", "Kindness" and "Honesty") form an integral part of whole-person development.  In response to the global efforts in promoting character education in recent years, this Centre has represented CUHK to register in the Character Day Hong Kong 2018 as a recognised participating institution.


I·CARE Giveaway: Tickets for Sing Out

This Centre is giving away free tickets to students for viewing the original local musical Sing Out.  This production will offer a journey of "Character x Art" Education through which the passion of youth can be tasted.


"HAVE, U Can" Joint-university Camp

The "HAVE, U Can" Joint-university Camp was successfully held on 4-8 June 2018.  It is one of the activities under the cross-institutional project on "Student Learning in Generic Competencies" funded by the University Grants Committee.  This Centre, together with the Faculty of Business Administration and the Faculty of Engineering, represents CUHK to work with The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, The Education University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to plan and implement the camp.  An attendance of 212 students from the six collaborating universities was recorded, of which 30 had come from CUHK serving as either mentors or participants.


"HAVE, U Can" High Table Dinner

On 7 June 2018, the "HAVE, U Can" High Table Dinner was held at the College Hall, Jockey Club Student Village III of The University of Hong Kong.  It is the first of its kind in the higher education sector which brought together 248 students and teachers from six local universities, as well as 79 distinguished guests of a wide range of professions.


Delegation of Students and Alumni Visits India to Understand Social Business

Yunus Social Business Centre@CUHK, a subsidiary of this Centre, led a delegation of four students and alumni to Bengaluru, India on 27 June - 2 July 2018.  They attended the Social Business Day and paid visits to non-governmental organisations during the trip.


S.I. Leadership Award: Project Presentation Day & List of Winners

The S.I. Leadership Award was jointly set up by CUSE Fund under this Centre and Yunus Social Business Centre@CUHK, under which two categories namely Social Enterprise Track and Social Business Track welcome applications from CUHK students and alumni who are interested in starting up or operating social enterprise/ social business.  The winning projects will each receive a maximum of HK$100,000 (for Social Enterprise Track) and HK$80,000 (for Social Business Track) as seed funding.


Yunus Social Business Centre@CUHK - Jockey Club Youth Programme

The "Jockey Club Youth Programme" administered by Yunus Social Business Centre@CUHK, a subsidiary of this Centre, is sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.  It is going to organise the S.I. Leadership Award 2018 Presentation Ceremony cum Yunus Social Business Seminar in this month to not only signify the launch of the "Yunus Social Business Centre@CUHK - Jockey Club Youth Programme" but also have Prof. Muhammad Yunus, Founder of Grameen Bank, Dhaka and Nobel Peace Laureate 2006, to present the S.I. Leadership Award.

In summer holidays i.e. May to August, the eNewsletter of I·CARE Centre for Whole-person Development is issued every two months instead of on monthly basis.  The next one will be published on 16 September 2018.  The Event Calendar included in this eNewsletter is also suspended until August 2018.
